Chapter I
For more than twenty years, Fable has invited players into Albion — a fairytale land with a wicked sense of humour, where every choice nudges your hero toward light or shadow. Here is how the story has unfolded so far.
The adventure begins on the original Xbox in September 2004. Made by Big Blue Box, a satellite studio of Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead Studios, it let players grow a single hero from childhood, with good and evil deeds visibly changing how they looked and how the world treated them. It went on to be the top-selling game of September 2004.
An expanded edition arrived in September 2005 on Xbox and, for the first time, on Windows PC — adding new quests, areas and content to the original story. A Mac version followed in 2008.
Released on Xbox 360 in October 2008 and set 500 years after the first game, in an age of highwaymen and flintlock pistols. It introduced a loyal canine companion, the choice to play as a man or a woman, and co-op play — and became a critical and commercial hit.
Out on Xbox 360 on 29 October 2010, with a PC release in 2011. Albion is now in its industrial age; players lead a revolution against their tyrant brother, then take the throne and prepare the kingdom for a far greater threat.
Fable Heroes, a cheerful multiplayer brawler, landed on Xbox Live Arcade in May 2012, followed that October by Fable: The Journey, a Kinect title for Xbox 360 and the last game Lionhead would release.
A high-definition remake of the original game, including The Lost Chapters content, released for Xbox 360 in February 2014, with a Windows PC version too — a new generation’s way back to where it all began.
Microsoft cancelled the in-development Fable Legends in March 2016, and Lionhead Studios closed its doors that April. For a while, Albion fell quiet.
At the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, a brand-new Fable was announced, in development at Playground Games — the British studio best known for the Forza Horizon series.
Playground’s Fable is a fresh beginning rather than a sequel — a reimagined Albion that keeps the series’ moral choices, freedom and British humour. After moving from 2026, it is scheduled for 23 February 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and PlayStation 5 (as of September 2026).

Chapter III
The first time you left Oakvale. The night you stayed up far too late in a tavern. The friend you played co-op with on the sofa. Whatever Fable means to you, we’d love to hear it.
